Pick a Reliable Dive Instructor

Before signing up for diving courses,
most people tend to compare prices, read customer reviews and check out dive shop facilities.

However, they overlook the single most important thing:
whether their instructor holds a legal and valid PADI teaching qualification.

Want to know how to verify your dive instructor’s identity and teaching credentials?

The process is straightforward – you can do it via the official PADI WeChat Official Account:
Head to the chat page of the official account, locate the menu bar labeled "PADI News",
select "Instructor Qualification Check", then follow the prompts to enter the required information for verification.

There are many problematic crash-course practices in the industry, where people start working as instructors hastily without meeting proper professional standards. Before signing up, you may ask instructors to show when they obtained their Open Water certification and their instructor license. If someone became a dive instructor only a few months after first learning to dive, you must stay highly cautious. Also, distinguish two key concepts: years of diving experience do not equal years of teaching experience. Many dive shops overhype instructors as "veteran practitioners". Simply having dived for a long time does not mean they have ample teaching experience — do not be misled by such marketing claims. Lastly, diving carries inherent safety risks. Certified instructors master professional techniques and emergency rescue skills. They can train you safely and correct improper diving movements. Unlicensed or fake instructors offer sloppy, inadequate training, which greatly increases risks of water inhalation, muscle cramps, drowning, decompression sickness and other hazards. These incidents may result in minor injuries or even life-threatening consequences.
